Savana Funk is an Italian funk rock band formed in Bologna, Italy in 2015. The band is known for its unique sound which combines elements of funk, rock, African music, blues, psychedelic rock, and jazz. They are also recognized for their energetic live performances. The core members include Aldo Betto on guitar, Blake C.S. Franchetto on bass, Youssef Ait Bouazza on drums, and Nicola Peruch on keyboards.
Savana Funk came into existence when its members met in Bologna and discovered a mutual musical connection. They officially adopted the band name in 2018. Over the years, they have become one of the most sought-after Afro-funk bands in Italy.
Their latest album, Tindouf, was released in 2021.
Savana Funk aims to create instrumental music with a clear structure, focusing on melody and groove rather than excessive jamming. Originally a pure live band featuring just guitar, bass, and drums, they gradually added effects pedals and keyboard/synth layers to enhance their sound. Analog recording techniques were employed in their album Tindouf to capture their live essence.
Their latest single, "Wa Zina," featuring Willie Peyote, was released in 2024.
