Raised in a musically diverse household, Dayes was drawn to rhythms from an early age. His bass-playing Jamaican father introduced him to jazz and reggae, while his mother, a teacher and yoga instructor from Somerset, favored country music and '60s pop. The youngest of four brothers, each learned piano, but Dayes' destiny lay with the drums.
