Raphael Saadiq is a highly influential American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer who has shaped R&B and soul music for over three decades. Born Charles Ray Wiggins on May 14, 1966, in Oakland, California, Saadiq was the second-youngest of 14 children.
Saadiq grew up in Oakland, where he learned bass guitar and sang gospel as a child. At age 18, he was hired to play bass on Prince's Parade world tour in 1986, marking his entry into the professional music scene.
In 1986, Raphael formed the R&B group Tony! Toni! Toné! with his brother D'Wayne Wiggins and cousin Timothy Christian Riley. The group released four successful albums:- Who? (1988)- The Revival (1990)- Sons of Soul (1993)- House of Music (1996)
The band attained success with hit singles like "It Never Rains (In Southern California)," "Feels Good," "Anniversary," and "If I Had No Loot."
